Customer support is a business function that comes into play when a customer finds something wrong or faulty with the purchased product. In other words, customer support is primarily fixing things and ensuring the customer uses the product the way it’s supposed to be used. Though a distinct business function, customer support is often considered the same as customer service. If one had to differentiate customer support and service in a sentence, customer service is a major business function that has customer support as one of its key components.
For example, in case of a software application, all the updates, patches, and other value-adding service relating to the application will go down as customer service. On the other hand, a customer seeking assistance with software download, installation, etc. is taken care of by the customer support team.
